A normal strand of hair lasts on the scalp for 2-6 years, and falls off to provide space for a new follicle to grow, which takes place in about 6 months’ time. It is thus normal for a human being to experience a minimum hair loss of 50-100 strands per day.

8.    Pregnancy brings about hair loss in many women with fluctuations in their hormone levels. Even birth control pills and changes in the menstrual cycle can bring about hair loss. However stopping pills, regularity in the menstrual cycle and birth of the child can lead to the re-growth of hair.

9.    Children actually don’t suffer from hair loss; however in some cases, the presence of ringworms in the scalp can lead to hair loss.

10.    There are some people who have a compulsive behavior of pulling hair from their scalp, eyelashes and eyebrows. Such people suffer from trichotillomania, and resort to pulling their hair as a form of self-release. This in turn, leads to hair loss in them.
